Quiet Love
Stewart Duffie/97
The words I seem to understand
Jesus voice whispers in my ear,
His promise, as he takes me by the hand
I see a glimpse of the promised land
Where peace and love and beauty near,
And all around is sea and sky,
A sky so blue, the air so clear
That all who come must linger here.
I hear the angel choir sing,
Their voices are so sweet and clear.
Jesus please take me by the hand
And lead me to that quiet land.
What lie in store I cannot know,
with music, words and prayers I tell.
Of Him who holds me in his hand,
and leads me to His promised land.

A Prayer
by Skip Duffie
Dear gentle Jesus, you went to your death freely, you did not struggle,
nor did you hate those who were about to kill you.
Instead you called to your Father in Heaven saying, "Forgive them."
Then gentle Jesus, you passed your forgiveness along to us.
Saying in forgiveness we are forgiven.
How sad you must feel when you look around this world,
you see the sick and suffering, you stretch out your hand,
offering love and healing to those who need it.
You whisper in our ear, we do not hear, you speak of love,
You speak of forgiveness, Oh the tears you shed
when we speak of hate, war or getting even.
You offered your body as sacrifice to be slain,
We with hard hearts, do not accept your offering.
You said, if we ask for anything in your name,
your Father in Heaven will grant that wish,
you offer eternal life, we ask for material things.
How alone you must feel, you walk the lonely walk carrying your cross,
offering your blood to all those who would accept,
healing those afflicted, not asking if they are Gentile or Jew, black or white.
You sent your twelve out to heal the sick, preach the good news.
You heal us of what we need not what we want. Every year Jesus, you head to your death,
reminding us that you are there, just for us. You ask for nothing except for us to love
one
another as you love us.
Oh the tears you must shed at our unwillingness to forgive.
I will make this vow dear Jesus, I will try to hear your voice in the stillness,
I will make an effort to forgive those whom I think have hurt me.
I will, as you ask, go to my private room and pray
to my Father in Heaven for the strength and courage,
to accept the love and forgiveness that is mine for the taking.
If I have offended you my God I will ask for and receive your forgiveness
I will learn how to love.
I realize that to love ones neighbor, we must make an effort, for
loving must be practiced and learned. But most of all oh my Savior I will learn how to
love
myself. Thank you dear Jesus for answering my prayer before I pray. Amen
