"Let this mind be in you..."

Philip. 2:3-7
Don't act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves.  Don't be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Jesus - being essentially one with God - chose to become man.  To experience our existence.  To take on our humanness.  He faced temptation.   He faced rejection. He faced every emotion that we face, He dealt with every situation and every circumstance.  He was loved and He was hated.  He was befriended by many and He was lied to by many.  Leaving His home of perfection He walked in a land of imperfection contained in a body of imperfection.  Imagine being perfect and desiring  to become so intimately acquainted with another that you are willing to give up everything.  It was the ultimate example of  - "put yourself in their place".  If we only had the desire to understand each other and the willingness to make each other more important than ourselves - what a difference we could make.  Instead of judgement there would be compassion.  Instead of anger there would be patience.  Instead of hatred we would create a bond of loving trust that could withstand so many attacks.

Let us choose - by an act of our will - to be like minded with Christ, as He "put Himself in our place".  Let us in turn strive to understand with patience - not thinking so highly of ourselves - esteeming others as more important - reaching out in His Love!
